Summer Happenings with Campbell School Dancers

In June, the Campbell School Dancers added two more states to the travel log.

New Hampshire~ Loon Mountain was the beautiful setting for this competition. Reese, Ellie and Annie were Leaping in Loon with a successful dance day.  Dance moms Amy and Karen even spotted a Black Bear on their morning walk. Loon Mountain will also host a Championship in September.

Rhode Island~ Campbell School dancers were a force to be reckoned with at the Rhode Island Highland Games.  Congratulations to Izzy as she received her first stamp.  Brigid, Caroline, Elena and Katherine all had a successful day of dancing.  Special shout out to Ciara who won 5 firsts places including Dancer of the Day!! The trophy was too big to bring home!

Our first summer camp session was well attended.  This is an opportunity for the dancers to increase their stamina while working on the finer points of technique.  There is nothing better than 4 days of 5 hour dance practices. The dancers are also excited to spend time with Isla and Finn.  Foot and leg rubs are very much appreciated after these intense work outs.

WELCOME:  Emma and Kate, our new dancers.  We are so happy to have you as part of our dance family.  We look forward to meeting you.

Coming up in the July Recap ~

Miss Kathleen traveled to Prince Edwards Island in Canada to Judge Canada’s National Competition, Scotdance.

Second session dance camp was held for those dancers who are competing in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Grandfather Mountain Championship in North Carolina

USIR 2017- Salt Lake City, Utah

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo~ Brigid, Caroline and Maty travel to Scotland to begin rehearsals. You can follow along with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Dance Company by viewing their Facebook page!

Campbell School Dancers Bloom in May

Congratulations to all of our dancers who competed in the 2017 Eastern Regional Championship competition in East Strousburg, PA.  It turned out to be a very interesting competition when the town experienced a power outage and we were left in the dark.  As highland dancers we have learned to adapt to crazy conditions.  We are thankful our Pipers are always unplugged, so after a quick relocation to the nearby gymnasium, dancing continued.

Our Eastern Region representatives from Campbell School are headed to Salt Lake City, Utah for the 2017 USIR National Competition.

Reese, Ciara, Elena, Ellie and Annie have all qualified to represent the Eastern Region in their respective age groups.

Fairhill, Maryland was the location for the 57th annual Highland games.  Campbell School dancers were on hand to dance their hearts out in unusually cool temperatures for these games.  4 out of 5 group trophies were won by Campbell School dancers, Reese, Ciara, Ellie and Maty. With Maty taking home top prize: Dancer of the Day.  Extra, Extra, Read all about it!! Ciara and Sammie made in to the front page of the Cecil County Whig.

Isla was impressed by all the trophies!

It’s A Boy and his name is Finley. Congratulations to Miss Casey Anne and her husband Matt as they welcome the newest member of our dance family.

June started with a special performance at PMCA to support Brigid, Caroline and Maty .  They are traveling to Scotland this August for their 3rd trip as cast members in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.  The show featured Campbell School Dancers, Washington Memorial Pipe Band and a little taste of past choreographies from Brigid, Caroline and Maty.  Thank you to all who helped to make this an extraordinary event.  Your support is truly appreciated.

We have a busy summer ahead with lots of travel. Looking forward to sharing more soon.

New York –

Bebe, Ellie and Reese represented the Campbell School extremely well at the 52nd Scotia Indoor Competition in Albany.  Ellie and Reese won their age groups and Hornpipe challenges.  It is sad to report this is the final year for the Scotia competition.

International Dance Day April 29th

The Campbell School was honored to be invited to perform at Dance Elite’s Annual Showcase.  We welcomed Caroline home from college and quickly brought her back into the fold by performing the Shadows choreography with Annie and Brigid. Campbell school dancers are always eager to share our love of Scottish dance.

Southern Maryland Highland Games- Allie, Catherine and Elena represented Campbell School with a trip to these games.  It was a hot day and they are reminded why kilts and jackets are better suited for Scotland’s cooler climate.

The Eastern Regional Competition –

May 6th in East Strousburg, PA. We look forward to sharing an update about that shortly.  We are excited to be sending some dancers to Salt Lake City, Utah in July to compete in the United States National Championship!

Campbell School is Off and Dancing in 2017

The 2017 Competition Season has started off with a bang for the Campbell School.  In only 3 months we have danced in 4 states.

Campbell School was well represented in Florida as Katherine and Elena danced in The Central Florida Classic Open Championship. Congratulations to Elena who placed 5th Runner Up! They even had time to stop by Disney.

We had quite the California adventure as we made our way to the west coast to dance on The Queen Mary Open Championship , Long Beach CA.  Even though CA was experiencing record rain the girls, Annie, Sammie, Ellie, Ciara and Reese did not let it get in their way of experiencing the wonder of dancing on the legendary ship.  Highlight on dancing success with Reese taking home the 1st runner up trophy for each day.  We also took a well deserved side trip to Disneyland.  Thanks to the Cunningham family for hosting us in Redondo Beach.  We had so much fun we hope to make a return trip.

March took our whole dance school to North Caldwell, NJ for the 28th Annual Essex County Indoor competition.  Here we welcomed our newest dancer, Isabelle.  Campbell School dancers had several achievements as Anna and Bebe competed in their last intermediate competition with Bebe winning the trophy for the group.  Congratulations to Camille as she danced in her first Premier competition.  Reese won the Mae Elliott Sailor’s Hornpipe Challenge.  Her trip to the Queen Mary must have given her a little extra inspiration!

Our March workshop brought us a visitor from Canada, renowned dance instructor and adjudicator, Bill Troock, spent the weekend with our dancers taking them through each dance and helping to perfect each movement.  There were many sore muscles and feet by Sunday afternoon.  Parents were also able to attend a workshop meeting presented by Emily Galvin and Theresa Giunta of Summit Performance Consultants. Emily and Theresa equipped each parent with strategies in supporting our competitive dancers.

We finished out March with all of our dancers traveling to Bethlehem PA for the BATD Festival.  The Mackay sisters earned the trophies in their respective age groups. This competition provided the dancers with the opportunity to have written comments from the judge.  Our dancers are continually looking for ways to improve their art. Their focus will be on fine tuning their technique as we look forward to a busy competition schedule.

April includes a trip to Loch Norman, North Carolina. Stay tuned for a recap from that trip and other spring adventures. Good Luck to all of our Campbell School dancers we are so proud of your hard work and dedication to the art and sport of Highland Dance.

What’s New?!?!

After a long hiatus of posting, here are the top exciting things that the Campbell School did over the Spring, Summer and Fall! We hit some major personal milestones, took a big trip, congratulated a National finalist, and most importantly, HAD A BLAST! The ladies that make up this school never cease to amaze the teachers. Not only do we have fabulous dancers, but wonderful young women representing us!

1. Campbell Dancer, Caroline, bid adieu to high school and graduated this spring. After a busy summer of dancing in Scotland, she moved into her dorm room as a Freshman at the University of Pittsburgh just hours after stepping off a plane from Glasgow!

2. Campbell School Alumni, Kaela McLaughlin, was married in May! The wedding reception wouldn’t be complete without the fling! Of course, after a few years since dancing, Kaela and her bridesmaids (also Campbell Alumni) had to brush up on their 4 steps!

Rehearsal Dinner Rehearsal!

Campbell School alumni- Colleen, Casey Anne, Molly, Cailine, Jill and Claire!

3. The Campbell School was very proud to have 4 representatives qualify for National Championship this Summer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The girls worked hard in the spring and summer to compete at their very best in July. A special congratulations to Reese who was 1st Runner Up in the 7 & Under 12 age group!!!

Sammi and Annie got to pose with two-time Olympic Gold medalist Women’s Soccer Player, Lindsay Tarply!

Allie, Reese, Annie and Ciara, our four finalists!

The dancers and teachers in Grand Rapids, Michigan!

4. The Campbell School traveled to Scotland this summer for 2 weeks of competition and sight-seeing! Thanks to all our loyal fans and supporters who helped us get there by making very generous donations! The girls enjoyed every moment and came home with many prizes!

The dancers and their cheering squad arrive in Glasgow!

5. Senior Dancers, Caroline, Brigid and Maty were selected again to perform for the month of August in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. They were among a handful of American dancers to be chosen and joined girls from Scotland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. These three know how to perform beautifully and have a great time wherever they go.

Just a quick 7 hour flight!

6. We were beyond thrilled to welcome a new member to our Dance Family- Isla Kathleen, born on October 4th to Campbell School teacher, Miss. Cailine! We have already started working on her rhythm, and know it will be impeccable. Her mom taught through the whole pregnancy….and 5, 6, 7, 8!

7. Campbell Dancers come to the rescue for each other often- even if it is just to help you keep your socks up! Now…..are these Caroline’s knees, or a Peyton’s?!?!

What a busy dance season we’ve had! The winter is our time to re-set, learn new steps, and get ready for the next year. But first, we will celebrate the many accomplishments that happened in 2016 and the holiday! Thank you to our wonderful dancers, parents and supporters. Looking forward to sharing more in 2017!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Campbell Dancers Salute the Troops

The Campbell School dancers along with the Washington Memorial Pipe band were proud to participate in the Lancaster Barnstormer’s Memorial Day tribute on Friday evening. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! Looking forward to kicking off a great dancing summer!
